Sarnano - Sassotetto

The thrill of speed,
the charm of the mountain.

Imagine the thrill of a car race in the backdrop of the breathtaking panorama of the Sibillini Mountains. Do you think it’s impossible? Not here. For a weekend Sarnano turns into the coveted destination for four-wheels lovers thanks to the Sarnano-Sassotetto climbing. It is a Hillclimbing during which the cars whizzing individually towards the top of the mountain, try to establish the best time.

The trophy is dedicated to the pilot Lodovico Scarfiotti, grandson of Giovanni Agnelli and great champion of motoring, who tragically died in an accident in Rossfeld, Germany, in 1968. The first edition of the Trofeo Scarfiotti dates back to 1969, but the event stopped on its 17th edition, and was resumed in 2008 thanks to the commitment of Automobile Club Macerata, with the support of the Municipality of Sarnano and with the commitment of some local associations. The prestige and spectacularity of the Sarnano-Sassotetto race have grown year after year and is now one of the most prestigious car racing competitions on a national level.

Since 2013 the Sarnano-Sassotetto Hillclimbing consists of two races that take place on the same weekend: one is part of Campionato Italiano Montagna and the other is part of Campionato Italiano Auto Storiche.

Every year about 200 pilots and thousands of spectators come to Sarnano for this event, which is able to convey its spectacularity not only to fans of car racing. During the days before the race, in fact, the whole town turns into a great paddock: a kaleidoscope of vehicles ready to put on a real show.

The 28th edition of the Scarfiotti Trophy was held on August 4 and 5, 2018, along with the 11th edition of the Scarfiotti Historical trophy.
